Court Rejects Petition to Adopt a Single Name:
The Supreme Court, New York County, recently had the opportunity to consider whether an individual may be permitted to assume a single name. In a decision, which was published in the New York Law Journal on February 23, 2006, Justice Suarez rejected an applicant’s request to assume the single name “Robbie”.
In reaching his decision, Justice Suarez observed that the widespread use of a single name (without any middle or last name) “could have overwhelming untoward consequences.”
